MLK Day of Service - Individual Build Day

Habitat for Humanity is proud to partner with individual volunteers in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. toward Habitat's mission to transform lives and our city by building and repairing homes in partnership with families in need and uniting all Philadelphians around the cause of affordable housing. Our vision is a city in which all Philadelphians live in safe, affordable homes, and we strive to represent our mission and vision every day alongside our community members. Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is excited to partner with individuals in working alongside our build team on our on our Rehabilitation Project.

Day-Of Instructions

Volunteers will meet the Habitat staff at 1843 N 17th St, Philadelphia, PA 19121 at 8:30am. Please come up to the front of the construction site, and Habitat staff will greet you there. Please arrive on time so we can orient your group with an introduction and a few safety tips, and so we can get started on schedule.

Type of Work

Your work will vary depending on the day's needs but will likely be parging (putting a concrete/mortar mixture on the basement walls to water seal and strengthen the foundation) at our 17th Street rehab site, which means prepare to be messy!

Thank you for your flexibility with tasks, and please know that all of the work we have for our volunteers is a large part of helping families have a safe, affordable place to call home. It's important to remember that no skill or construction experience is necessary -- just a readiness to help out!

Lunch and Attire

The work day is from 8:30am-3pm. Please bring your own reusable water bottle, as we want everyone to stay hydrated throughout the day. Lunch will be at noon, please bring your own bagged lunch.

Be sure to dress in clothing that you don't mind getting dirty or messy. We will provide all the tools and safety equipment you will need.
